I run a variety of courses in groups or private tuition. Please contact me for more details.
Classes will be held on the second and last weekend of every month.
If there are large commissions taking place within the studio, there will be no new classes until the benches are clear.

WEEKEND COURSES
LEVEL: Beginner and Intermediate

I ask you to come to the course with an open mind, for two days of focused learning which combines hard work and creativity. Glass cutting is a challenging discipline to master, and patience is required to benefit from the tuition.

Based on my experience teaching other classes, I would advise students not to be hard on themselves when learning the skills involved. The techniques I will show you are easy to learn but will be completely new to you, so you will make mistakes in the initial stages. This is only natural!

The first steps are small; cutting a piece of clear glass to fit within a cutline will be the most beneficial skill you can learn. After using clear glass we will move on to coloured glass -- you will cut colours for your chosen design, and learn how different glasses react when being cut. Glass made by different manufacturers have different properties, and will therefore have unique characteristics when cut.

I will show you how to draw up a cartoon and a cut line, used to plan and plot out your design, and point out the mistakes and pitfalls to avoid. Drawing skills are not essential, but are definitely useful at this stage.

I will initially ask you to follow pre-drawn cut lines as so you can learn to use one skill at a time. Once you have mastered the necessary skill set, you can move on to creating your own designs.

WEEKLY COURSES
Students will work on individual glass projects at a relaxed pace, through all the skills required to make a small scale stained glass panel. Students will have ample time to try different techniques and play with their concepts.

• working with students own designs to produce their final design
• learning how to create a cut line from a chosen design
• leading a stained glass panel -soldering and cementing
• glass painting and copper foiling - available on request.

PRIVATE TUITION
